Preparing for Pride Month: Books for kids

By Hal, Rainbow Services Librarian

As the summer approaches, so does Pride Month. In the United States and many other countries around the world, we celebrate Pride during June in honor of the Stonewall Uprising of 1969.

Nowadays, communities throughout the world celebrate Pride Month with parades of rainbows and glitter. These parades began as marches organized by activists to protest oppression.

Marsha P. Johnson, Sylvia Rivera, and Stormé DeLarverie are three of the community leaders who fought at Stonewall and dedicated their lives to advocating for liberation for queer and trans people.

Today, bright and jubilant celebration of love, community, identity, self-expression, and resilience remains an important act of solidarity and resistance.
