Prioritizing sustainability, the library promotes and encourages the use of electric vehicles. In January 2024, the library added charging stations in the Main Library garage to give public access to electric energy to recharge plug-in electric vehicles.
At Maze Branch
Outdoor patio seating
Bring a book or your lunch to the south side of Maze Branch, where we have four new picnic tables with umbrellas (pictured above), first-come, first-served.
Community Sensory Garden
Maze Branch is home to the Community Sensory Garden, where flowers, ornamental plants, and herbs are grown for the community to enjoy and harvest. Patrons tend to the garden during summer classes.
PoSITivity Bench
Thanks to a local chapter of The Links, Inc., the PoSITivity Bench (pcitured above) welcomes patrons to Maze Branch. Installed in spring 2022. Links, an international volunteer organization of professional women of African descent, focuses on community service, including services to youth, the arts, and health and human services. “During the pandemic especially, we saw the need for a spot to find peace, reflection, and safety,” said Beverly Singleton, West Town Links Friendship Co-Chair. She and other Links members called the PoSITivity Bench’s new home—in a shaded spot along the walkway next to hydrangea trees—”tranquil” and “perfect. I hope people can sit and think about happier, less stressful times, times that brought them peace,” she added.
