Catch the Reading Bug Summer Reading Program

How to Play

Want the buzz on this summer's reading program? Itching to explore nature this summer? Antsy for cool programs? You've come to the right place-it's time to CATCH THE READING BUG! Starting June 5, stop by the Oak Park Public Library to get started.

If you're going into first through sixth grade, you'll receive a Field Guide, which contains lots of fun, different activities-complete 3 activities and read for 3 hours and you'll finish a stage. Think you can complete all 8 stages? If so, you'll be moving on to our Challenge Round….

Kids younger than first graders are welcome to participate in CATCH THE READING BUG, too-and fill in your own reading record with stickers.

You can read anything you like (at your reading level), including magazines and graphic novels. Listening to audiobooks and reading outloud to someone else counts, too.

Library Helpers

Volunteers will be helping at the Library this summer! They will help with special programs, create summer reading displays, write book reviews, read aloud to younger children, decorate the Library, and promote the summer reading program. Learn more.

Checking In

Bring your Field Guide or reading record to a Field Station (Oak Park Public Library) to check in. You will receive a sticker when you complete each stage, and prizes will be given out when you finish Stages 2, 5 and 8. You can work on CATCH THE READING BUG at home, at the Library, and on vacation.
What Else?

The Library has tons of fun stuff planned for this summer-like Exploration Stations, a Bug Zoo, insect-astic crafts, special puzzles and games, and storytimes for younger children. Plus, visits from exotic reptiles, the Very Hungry Caterpillar, and the Orkin Man. Be sure to ask us for all the details and visit often.Search
