Children's Services has received a Rotary Foundation grant: "Raise a Reader." We present Saturday storytimes for babies from birth to 24 months and during special "Giveaway Days," we hand out baby books and exciting prizes. Local daycares also benefit from this early literacy initiative. Children's Librarians visit 7 daycares monthly for storytimes and to share tips with caregivers. The daycares are given storytime kits, big books, music CDs, board books, and book lists. Our goal is to encourage caregivers to incorporate storytimes for babies and toddlers into their daily routines, and to start the reading habit as early as possible.
