Teen Advisory Council (TAC)

What Is TAC?
TAC is a volunteer board of the Oak Park Public Library for young adults.

What do we do?
. Come to monthly meetings.
. Tell what books, CDs, and movies teens want in the Library.
. Figure out what the Young Adult Area should look like.
. And remember, joining an organization like TAC looks really good on college applications.

How to join?
If you are in the 6th through 12th grade and live in Oak Park, join TAC by contacting Young Adult Librarian Monica Harris at or 708-452-3456.

Young Adult Area

The Young Adult Area in the Main Library features collections of fiction books, nonfiction books, graphic novels, and magazines of interest to teens. There's an open area with comfy chairs, tables, and booth seating.

Computers in the area offer Internet access, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, other software, and online tools. Bring your laptop and use a plug-in or wireless connection for high speed access.

The area offers a Young Adult Group Study Room featuring an original painting by Jonathan Franklin. Original art by Rodney Carswell, Jacob Hashimoto, and John Winslow are also displayed in the Young Adult Area.

Young Adult Services

Young Adult Services is responsible for providing materials and services to young adults, particularly students in middle school and high school. Young Adult Services also presents programs for young adults on an ongoing basis. Some popular programs are the Teen Advisory Council, After-Hours Teen Coffeehouse, and the Young Adult Summer Reading Program, a theme based reading program conducted each summer.
