Spring is in full swing, and May is Older Americans Month. It’s a beautiful time to celebrate our older adult community. Our local Celebrating Seniors committee is working to make this year’s Celebrating Seniors Week—held May 7-14—better than ever.
Celebrating Seniors Week is sponsored by the Celebrating Seniors Coalition, an organization dedicated to uplifting and advocating for older adults in the community. The organization dispels the myth that older adults are “past their prime” and provides a forum and resources for community members ages 60 and older.

Older Adult Coffee Hour
Friday, May 1, 9:30 am, Main Library
Catch up with local older adults and enjoy a special featured program. This month, we will welcome DuShaun Branch for a 30-minute chair yoga session.
Craft Corner: Collage Cards
Wednesday, May 6, 4-5:30 pm, Main Library
This is an intergenerational program created to bring the entire community together for fun and sustainable projects. Join us in May to make collage cards. This is a great chance to create unique cards for greetings, thank-yous, Mother’s or Father’s Day, or other spring and summer events, to give to friends and family.
Celebrating Seniors Week: Puppet Making Project
Saturday, May 9, 2 pm, Main Library
Celebrate and explore the impact of intergenerational connection during Celebrating Seniors Week. The library is excited to welcome puppet designer Jacky Kelsey for a hands-on puppet-making workshop for creators of all ages. Older adults are encouraged to bring the young artists in their lives to team up for this fun puppet-making project.
Chair Yoga

All levels are welcome for a gentle chair yoga with instructor, DuShaun Branch.
Scrabble Club

All skill levels and ages welcome for a friendly game or two.
Wednesday Matinee

Stop in for an afternoon film. This week, we are featuring Thelma. A 93-year-old Thelma gets duped by a scammer and embarks on a journey through the city to recover her losses.
Weaving
Thursday, May 14, 9:30 am, Main Library
Phyllis Frick will be leading a fun and creative project for older adults. All materials will be provided, and participants will be able to take home a unique wall hanging.
