Announcing our newest pop-up library location: Oak Park’s Village Hall, 123 Madison St., Oak Park!
Pop-up libraries allow community members to use the library when they’re out and about, no library card or checkouts needed.
This new shelf, located in the welcome center of Oak Park’s main municipal building, offers books about fire trucks, voting rights, community building, and more that kids can browse while their grown-up pays the water bill, for example.
‘By working together, we can foster a love for reading’
In response to feedback from Oak Park Village Clerk Christina Waters, this pop-up library is a curated selection of engaging titles for kids that relate to the work done at Village Hall.
For this assignment, Youth & Family Outreach Librarian Sarah Yale aims to find books that celebrate community leaders and civic participation (such as voting, fighting for justice, and accessibility), green initiatives (like community gardens), emergency personnel (like firefighters), and getting to know your neighbors.
“The Village of Oak Park is excited to partner with our Oak Park Public Library on the Pop-up Library initiative because it creates an opportunity to encourage youth literacy and civic engagement directly within our community,” said Village Clerk Christina Waters (pictured above, right, with Carlton McBeth, Customer Service Representative in the Neighbor Services Department).
“By working together, we can foster a love for reading, support lifelong civic learning, and strengthen connections between local institutions, enriching the lives of everyone who visits Village Hall’s Welcome Center,” Waters said.
More about pop-up libraries
Oak Park’s Village Hall is our fifth pop-up library location, adding to ones installed in 2024 at the Community Recreation Center, Wonder Works, and Styles 4 Kidz, and earlier this year at Kids Unlimited Therapy Services.
