Announcing our newest pop-up library location: Oak Park River Forest Museum, 129 Lake St., Oak Park.
Pop-up libraries allow community members to use the library when they’re out and about, no library card or checkouts needed.
The new collection is in the second-floor children’s section at the historical museum. Curated for kids and families, it includes board books, picture books, nonfiction, and graphic novels for kids that highlight both local history and Oak Park authors and creators, as well as titles that feature and foster understanding about diverse and supportive communities.
‘Our mission is to gather & share stories of the community’
“Our mission at OPRF Museum is to gather and share stories of the community,” says Fran Knechel, Board President of Oak Park River Forest Museum (pictured above right). “Welcoming as many people in the door to start connecting is one of our priorities. Having Oak Park public librarians select a range of children’s books that engage children to learn about history and community will be a great asset to how we can serve families during a visit.”
“I know I’ve been at museums and wanted to engage in exhibits longer than my children,” Knechel added. “It will be so helpful for parents to have another way to connect with their young children in the museum setting and read together or have their older children read while they take a little longer to browse an exhibit.”
