Friends Annual Book Fair set for July 14-16

The Friends of the Oak Park Public Library are pleased to announce that their annual used book sale will be held on July 14-16 on all three floors of the Main Library, 834 Lake St. In addition to thousands of books in all possible categories, good condition DVDs and CDs will be available for purchase. Parking in the Main Library garage is free for up to two hours, and there is no charge to enter.

Fair hours are 9 am-5:30 pm Friday & 9 am-4:30 pm Saturday

On Sunday, July 16, fair volunteers will be invited from noon-2pm to select free items. Local non-profits, school teachers, and area Little Free Library Stewards are welcome to gather free items from 2-4 pm. Then new this year, and also from 2-4 pm Sunday, the public is invited to fill up a grocery bag with their choice of items for just $10 a bag.

What else will be new in 2023?

“After last summer’s event, the first held at the Main Library and not Oak Park and River Forest High School, we did some follow-up,” Russ Glidden, president of the board of directors for the Friends of the Oak Park Public Library. Glidden explained that the Friends did their homework, surveying volunteers, speaking with shoppers, and researching what other community events were already on the calendar for the summer of 2023. “Many people wanted another date,” he said, adding that “the third weekend in July proved to be the best option.”

What else can shoppers expect?

Glidden said there will be more space to shop, as items will be spread throughout all three Main Library floors. To help you find what you are looking for, maps will be available to shoppers as they enter and volunteers will be available on all floors to help shoppers find what they are looking for.

When & where can we donate items for the sale?

“Carry-in” donations of good condition books, DVDs, and CDs can be left in the Main Library Lobby Community Space during open building hours.

Too many items to carry in yourself?

Like last year, Friends volunteers are staffing a convenient “bulk drop” Saturdays in June from 9 am to 1 pm. From North Grove Avenue, enter the alley just west of the Main Library and stop at the library’s loading dock. Friends volunteers will be on hand to unload donated items from vehicles.
