Local organizations

AgeOptions

A non-profit dedicated to improving the quality of life and maintaining the dignity of older adults and their caregivers. Volunteer opportunities include helping with benefits access, financial fraud prevention, and healthy living workshops.

AmeriCorps Seniors (RSVP)

The AmeriCorps Seniors Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) pairs adults aged 55 and older with organizations in the community for volunteer service. RSVP works to find a volunteer assignment that suits your interests, skills, or expertise.

Animal Care League

Animal Care League provides shelter and medical attention to animals in need. Volunteer opportunities range from dog walking and general shelter support to event planning and community outreach.

Beyond Hunger

Beyond Hunger provides hunger-relief programming and services to 13 zip codes across Cook County, including residents throughout Chicago and neighboring suburbs. A variety of volunteer shifts are available during weekday, evening, and weekend hours. Volunteer opportunities include data entry, repacking, serving pantry guests, and unloading delivery trucks.

Economy Shop

A cooperative resale store benefiting local charities that accepts donations of clothing and household goods. Volunteer opportunities include sorting, folding, shelving, and hanging clothes, as well as pricing and selling donated items.

Ernest Hemingway Foundation of Oak Park

Explore historic Oak Park and learn more about where Ernest Hemingway was born. Volunteer opportunities include greeting visitors, leading tours, IT support, graphic design, and antique restoration.

Frank Lloyd Wright Trust

The Frank Lloyd Wright Trust seeks to engage, educate, and inspire the public through Frank Lloyd Wright’s design legacy and preservation of his original sites. Volunteers present Frank Lloyd Wright’s original sites and their historic neighborhoods in Chicago and Oak Park to an international audience, and help with special events and education programs.

Friends of the Oak Park Public Library

As a stand-alone 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, the Friends of the Oak Park Public Library has been raising funds and building valuable bridges between the library and community since 1948. Volunteer opportunities include assisting with the annual summer book fair.

Hephzibah Children’s Association

Hephzibah offers short- and long-term group homes for abused and neglected children, child welfare and family services, foster care and adoption programs, and award-winning daycare on a sliding scale for families of all income levels. Hephzibah offers many ways to get involved; their volunteer manager can help find the right volunteer position for you or your group.

Learning Edge

Learning Edge provides free one-to-one tutoring and mentoring relationships to K-12 students primarily from the Austin neighborhood on Chicago’s west side. Tutors are matched with a student and work with that same student every week during the school year on reading, homework, and other enrichment activities.

New Moms

New Moms’ comprehensive approach provides housing, job training, academic coaching, and family support, giving moms and their children a path to lasting success. Volunteer opportunities include individual or group options for childcare, cleaning the facilities, and gardening.

Oak Park Festival Theatre

Oak Park Festival Theatre is Oak Park’s long-running outdoor theatre group and educational artistic group. Volunteer opportunities include ushering, ticket-taking, and set construction and set striking.

Oak Park Township

Oak Park Township provides locally governed supportive services to the Oak Park community. Volunteer opportunities include a wide range of community services, from meal delivery to money management assistance.

Park District of Oak Park

The Park District provides meaningful experiences through programs, parks, and facilities. Volunteers have the opportunity to enjoy the outdoors, meet new people, and make a difference in the community.

Pro Bono Network

The Pro Bono Network helps low-income individuals and families with their legal needs. Volunteering is open to anyone with a law license—active, inactive, retired, or out-of-state. The Network will help you find opportunities that match your interests and schedule.
