Beyond Books

Your library offers books—and more! On this page and in the catalog, find items to borrow that go beyond traditional library materials. And while you can’t borrow it with your library card, we encourage everyone to visit and explore art in the library.

Hands-on learning for kids & families

  • American Girl Dolls, each with their own journals, books, and accessories. Check out and take home an American Girl Doll »

Hotspots, laptops & book club kits

  • Book Club Kits are pre-assembled bags that include 10 copies of the same popular title, discussion questions curated by Oak Park librarians, and lists of similar titles for book groups. Each bag can be placed on hold by an individual Oak Park cardholder and is checked out as a single item. Find Book Club Kits in the library’s catalog »
  • Memory Kits can provide mental and emotional stimulation for people with memory loss. The kits are designed to be used to inspire conversation and build stronger connections. They include a variety of materials—books, movies, music, tools, and more—based on a theme. See Memory Kits available for checkout »
  • Mobile hotspots, laptops, Chromebooks, iPad Mini 2 devices, and an LCD projector can be checked out to use outside the library. Let’s get started »
  • Recording Kits are designed specifically to record personal stories for submission to the Oak Park Oral History Project. Kits include an iPod with a charging cable, a microphone, professional headphones, and an instruction sheet, all in a plastic carrying case. Place a Recording Kit on hold »
