Especially for older adults: Digital magazines & resources for hobbies & crafts

By Rose Barnes, Health & Senior Services Librarian

While August often marks the end of summer, the heat and long days still prevail. If you’re like me and love the heat, then it might be the perfect time to check out a magazine and sit outside.

Or, maybe you prefer the relief of an air-conditioned room while working on a fun crafting project. Either way, the library has you covered!

From our huge selection of digital magazines to our wide variety of crafting resources, there is something fun to discover for everyone. All are free to access with your Oak Park library card and PIN.

Check out two of my favorite hidden gems for hobbies & crafting

  • CreativeBug: An inspirational resource for DIY, crafters, and makers with more than 1,000 award-winning art and craft video classes taught by recognized design experts and artists.
  • Hobbies & Crafts Source: Detailed how-to instructions and creative ideas for hobby enthusiasts of all kinds, with full-text articles from leading hobby and craft magazines.

Plus, you can drop in for special Tech Help Drop-In sessions focused specifically on using digital newspapers in the Main Library Creative Studio on September 15 and October 13 from 10 am to 12 pm.

In the meantime, I hope you enjoy looking through all of the magazines and crafting resources the library offers and have a wonderful August!
