Creative Studio open for staff-led digital learning

Open now for staff-led digital learning events is a shiny new Creative Studio on the Main Library’s third floor. Offering 3D printers and laptops today, we expect to introduce a laser cutter, a large-format printer for posters and other oversize print jobs, a sound booth for professional-quality audio and video content creation, and digital preservation equipment for digitizing analog media like VHS tapes in early 2023. Thank you for your feedback

Close to 100 people responded in October to a survey (versions for adults and middle and high school students) designed to help shape new programs and workshops “that are equitable, inclusive, and relevant to community aspirations moving into 2023,” says Digital Learning Librarian John Gargiulo.

Plus more ways to use public library spaces

Bring a book or your lunch to the south side of Maze Branch, where we have four new picnic tables with umbrellas. First-come, first-serve.
Pull up a chair and plug in your devices at one of 10 study carrels on the Main Library’s third floor. First-come, first-serve.

Patio seating at the Main Library & Maze Branch

Come enjoy the great new outdoor furniture at the Main Library and Maze Branch!

We’re making better use of available outdoor space, thanks to American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 (ARPA) funds distributed through an Illinois State Library grant.

Quiet nooks at the Main Library

On the Main Library’s third floor, we now have 10 study carrels.

They each have nearby electrical outlets, can comfortably seat two, and are great alternatives when study rooms are booked (which is often).

These were purchased also thanks to ARPA funds and the Illinois State Library.
