Proof of Identity and Residency
At the Library present a picture ID reflecting a current Oak
Park address (such as a driver's license or state ID) and
current proof of residency in Oak Park (utility bill, bank
statement, vehicle registration, or postmarked envelope sent
within the last three months).
Children and teens under the age of 18 must have their parents
sign their application for a card and present proof of Oak
Park residency.
Using Your Library
Card
Oak Park Public Library cards may be used at the Main
Library, the Dole Branch,
and the Maze Branch. Oak Park
Public Library cards may also be used at most other libraries
in Illinois. (Please check with the library you intend to
visit and ask if they are a state-wide reciprocal borrower.
Bring proof of ID and your Oak Park Public Library card. Registration
may be required on your first visit.) Residents with Oak Park
Public Library cards are also able to request interlibrary
loan service. Children may use their library cards to borrow
all circulating items at the Oak Park Public Library. The Library
does not limit children to specific collections. It is the parents'
responsibility to guide their children's borrowing.
Patrons
should bring their library card with them when they intend to
borrow library items. Patrons are responsible for all items
checked out on their library cards. Lost or stolen library cards
should be reported to the Oak Park Public Library immediately.
Library cards are the property of the Oak Park Public Library
and may be restricted or revoked at any time. Library cards
are automatically invalid when a patron moves from Oak Park.
Residents should bring their Oak Park Public Library card with
them to use an Internet computer
at any Oak Park Public Library location.
Renew a Library Card
Oak Park Public Library cards expire after three years. A completed
application, picture ID, and current proof of residency in Oak
Park are needed to renew library cards. Library cards may be
renewed at the circulation desks at the Main
Library, the Dole Branch,
and the Maze Branch.
Lost Library Cards
A library card is a form of credit card. Lost or stolen library
cards must be reported immediately (708-383-8200). The reported
library card will be deactivated. The patron who has NOT reported
their library card lost or stolen will be responsible for all
items checked out on the card and payment of all related charges
as listed in the User Service
Charges and Fines policy. There is a $1 charge for replacement
of an Oak Park Public Library card.
Non Oak Park Residents
The Oak Park Public Library allows reciprocal borrowing for
anyone who has a valid Metropolitan Library System card or a
Chicago Public Library card and who presents a picture ID and
a current proof of residency to verify current address. Registration
may be required on your first visit to the Oak Park Public Library.
Other patrons may purchase a non-resident family card for use
within
the Metropolitan Library System for an annual fee of $311.47.
