Web Page Addresses

The first part of the domain name is often "www". It does not have to be. It could be any series of characters. Technically this part refers to the name of a computer. It is the next two parts of the domain name that are more significant in determining the authority of the page.

The second part of the address is a series of characters that represent that name of the organization responsible for the pages. This could be an abbreviation (e.g. OPPL is Oak Park Public Library in http://www.oppl.org) or it could be a word or phrase (e.g. Chicago Tribune is http://www.chicagotribune.org).

Note: Spaces do NOT appear in WWW addresses.
