Web Page Addresses

The part of the address that indicates the author of the page is called the domain name. It is the part of the address between "http://" and the following "/".

For example:

  • The domain name for http://www.oppl.org/reference/
        is "www.oppl.org"
  • The domain name for http://www.ibm.com/news/us/2002/03/112.html
        is "www.ibm.com"

If the domain name is used as an address, it usually leads to the website's home page. This works for both of the addresses above.
