What's a network?

In order to understand how to use the World Wide Web (WWW), we need to understand what it is (I know it's boring, so bear with me)...but first...

Let's talk about the Internet. Yes, the Internet and the WWW are two different things...sort of...

So, what's the Internet? The Internet is a network of computer networks that stretches around the world and includes millions of computers.

So, what's a network or computer network? A computer network is a bunch of computers that are hooked together (with wires, radio signals or whatever) for the purpose of sharing information. It's that simple!

So, the Internet is not just one computer network, but thousands of these networks all hooked together. It is a network of networks. Thus the name Internet!

So, what is the WWW then? We'll get to that. But first let's look a little bit more at the Internet.
