From Mouse to Mastery

From Mouse to Mastery probably sounds like lofty expectations to the novice user. It is our goal as a library, however, to provide our patrons with the skills to seek out and successfully find information on the World Wide Web (WWW).

First, though, we must do a bit of debunking...

Recently, it seems we are often presented with information that tells us that everything is available on the WWW and that if we aren't "online" then we will fall behind. It is important to keep in mind that when you hear these sweeping endorsements they are usually coming from someone who is invested in the Internet (e.g. Internet companies, technophiles, etc), therefore one can often consider the statement to be at least mildly biased.

Not everything is on the World Wide Web! Let's make that clear right now.

The Internet can be a valuable resource. The library wouldn't have offered this class if we did not believe the WWW to be a useful tool. However, to make the WWW truly useful it is important to understand a little bit about what it is, how it works and how to use it.

And that is where we begin...
