An auger drills a 45-foot deep hole in the north east corner of the site.  The hole will be filled with concrete to form a caisson.
7/1/02

The foundation of the old main library building has been completely removed.  Twenty-four of 60 caissons have been completed.  The foundation of the new main library building will be set on the caissons.

Workers prepare the north west corner for concrete pouring.

The formwork for the concrete walls is prepared.

The north west corner is ready for the first pouring of concrete.

The north west corner wall and four concrete columns have been poured.

Excavation is complete for installation of beams at the elevator pits.

Concrete pouring continues as work is done to prepare the elevator pits.

The north wall and part of the east wall have been poured for the basement level.

Gradebeams at three of the elevators are nearly completed.

The east wall on the basement level is nearly complete.
