November 2001 events in the Main Library Project
The sculpture "Unity and Growth" provides the perfect backdrop for a Polaroid of Library Board members on a warm November morning.
Final Farewell to the Old Main Library Building
On November 17 Library Board members and plenty of patrons turned out for the Final Farewell to the old main library building at 834 Lake Street. Patrons shared their memories of the building in the Memory Book and walked away with Polaroids of themselves in their favorite spot in the Library. Patrons also enjoyed balloon animals done by David Lyons the Balloon Man.

Main Library Moves, Expanded Branch Hours Begin
On Monday, November 26 the Main Library closed to begin the moving process. Hours at the Dole and Maze Branch Libraries were expanded to provide continued service to patrons. Branch hours will remain expanded while the Main Library is at its temporary location at 215 Harlem Avenue in Forest Park.

Movers pack books and move shelving. Books stacked in a moving bin.
The move began with non-fiction books in the Dewey 100's.

Moving bins move out the front entrance. A moving truck almost full. Moving bins on wheels made the process relatively easy, and quick.

Empty floor space where the Dewey 100's were shelved. Movers work in the Reference section.
A range of shelves has been moved.
