Permit Process Continues, Excavation Begins
Corrugated vertical plates called sheet piling are driven into the ground to form an earth retention wall around the site. The sheeting will also be the formwork for the foundation walls. (Click for larger image.)After obtaining the “foundation only” building permit on May 3, 2002 the Meyne Company began work at 834 Lake Street. To allow for excavation to the full depth of the basement parking garage, 22-foot plates of corrugated sheet piling were driven into the ground to form a temporary earth retention wall. Protection work for the three Linden trees on Lake Street was completed by a tree care firm. A “full” building permit is in the process of being obtained. To obtain this permit plans must pass review in several areas including building, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire safety.

North Grove Avenue Closed
Grove Avenue was closed where it adjoins the construction site. The approval to close this portion of North Grove Avenue was given by the Oak Park Village Board of Trustees in March 2001.
