July 2000 events in the Main Library Project

Design Considerations
In July, the Library Executive Director and 11 other board and staff members attended a Suburban Library System's presentation on the "Library of the Future," a newly built Canadian library which has garnered numerous awards.

This newly expanded library features a light prism designed by the light artist Michal Hayden who created the moving neon light artwork in the tunnel connecting the United Airline terminals at O'Hare Airport.

The Kalamazoo Public Library project is similar to the proposed Oak Park project in that it is 100,000 square feet on three above grade levels on a constrained corner site. Several staff members attended a presentation by the building team for the Kalamazoo Public Library at the American Library Association conference in Chicago earlier in July.
