January 2002 events in the Main Library Project

"Unity and Growth" Moved to Storage
The metal sculpture "Unity and Growth," created by Carole Harrison, was commissioned in 1966 and installed in front of the 834 Lake Street building shortly thereafter.Workers used jackhammers and muscle to removed the well-known sculpture from its base in front of the 834 Lake Street building. The sculpture will be in an art storage facility until the new main library building is constructed. Plans are for "Unity and Growth" to be placed in the vestibule of the new main library building.

Environmental Remediation
Environmental remediation at the 834 Lake Street building began January 22, 2002.
