Main Library Project
Village Board Takes Important
Step Toward Closing Portion of North Grove Avenue
The Oak
Park Village Board of Trustees voted unanimously January 22, 2001 to instruct
the Village attorney to draft an ordinance to close a portion of North
Grove Avenue. Library Board President Janet Kelenson, Architect Don McKay
of Nagle Hartray Danker Kagan McKay Architect Planners of Chicago, Landscape
Designer Carol Yetken, former Library Board member Augie Aleksy, Library
Space Needs Citizen's Committee member John Lukehart and Citizens for
Library Renewal Committee member and former Village President Larry Christmas
were among those presenting for the Library. The Library's attorney and
traffic consultant also made presentations, along with the Village's fire
chief, engineer and parking manager. Park District Executive Director
Gary Balling, Park District President Tim Kelley and other Park District
board members also participated in the public hearing.
A hearing of the Library's
Request for a Special Use Permit was postponed until March 6, 2001 in
order for the Library to present more complete plans.
