Written In Stone - "Oak Park Public Library" Sign Completed
A closer view of the stone "Oak Park Public Library" sign. (Click for larger image.)After several days of work on scaffolding on the south east corner of the building, workers for the Meyne Company completed the stone "Oak Park Public Library" sign over the main entrance. The installation of window frames and glass was also completed. Work began on the exterior copper wall system on the east side of the building. Inside workers continued to install ceiling gridwork, ceiling tile, and the grey elm veneer framework. Ceramic tile work began and installation of the Terrazzo floor continued. The stainless steel stringers were installed on the main staircase which is now ready for the Terrazzo treads.

Elected Officials Tour Construction Site
State and village elected officials toured the new Main Library construction site at 834 Lake Street in mid April 2003. Many expressed delight with the view from the reading area on the third floor overlooking Scoville Park; others were happy with the expanded Children's Room, complete with aquarium, on the first floor. Everyone felt enthusiasm for the long-awaited new Main Library building which will feature a computer classroom, small group study rooms, a Silent Reading Room with a fireplace, an art gallery, and even a coffee shop!
