April 2003 events in the
Main Library Project
Written In Stone - "Oak
Park Public Library" Sign Completed
After
several days of work on scaffolding on the south east corner of the building,
workers for the Meyne Company completed the stone "Oak Park Public
Library" sign over the main entrance. The installation of window
frames and glass was also completed. Work began on the exterior copper
wall system on the east side of the building. Inside workers continued
to install ceiling gridwork, ceiling tile, and the grey elm veneer framework.
Ceramic tile work began and installation of the Terrazzo floor continued.
The stainless
steel stringers were installed on the main staircase which is now ready
for the Terrazzo treads.

on the first floor. Everyone felt enthusiasm for the long-awaited new
Main Library building which will feature a computer classroom, small group
study rooms, a Silent Reading Room with a fireplace,
an art gallery, and even a coffee shop!
