Oak Park Public Library cardholders can place holds on items found in the Library Catalog. Have your card number ready and follow these instructions to login to your account and place holds. You will be notified when your item is available for you to pick up at the Library. Learn how to receive email notification of holds that are ready for pick up.

To find item before visit:
Search the catalogs of SWAN libraries* or other public libraries in Illinois. If you locate your item at a neighboring library call and ask that they hold the item for you before going to visit that library. Some libraries may not lend certain items so calling is highly recommended. If you want the item sent to the Oak Park Public Library for you to pick up simply fill out the "Make a Request" form in Option 1 to the left.

To check out item:
Oak Park Public Library cards may be used to check out materials at most other libraries in Illinois. Please check with the library you intend to visit and ask if they are a state-wide reciprocal borrower. Bring proof of ID and your Oak Park Public Library card. Registration may be required on your first visit.

*The SWAN Catalog is down for regular maintenance Monday through Friday 9:45 p.m. to 10:45 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

How to Place Holds on Items Found in Catalog
You will need your Oak Park Public Library card number to place a hold on an item found in the Library Catalog. The Library Catalog is inaccessible Monday mornings from 12:45 a.m. to 4:30 a.m. due to routine system maintenance.

1. Access the Library Catalog and search as usual. (How to search catalog.)
2. When you have found an item you wish to request click on the "Request Item" button.
3. If you have not already logged in you will need to enter all 14 digits of your library card number (without spaces) and enter your pin number (the last four digits of your telephone number unless you have changed it) and click on the "Login" button. (How to login to your account.)
4. The "Request Confirmation" screen will appear.
5. Click on the down arrow to select a location to pick up the item.
6. Click on the "Request" button and the "Your request has been successfully placed" message will appear. You will be notified when your item is available for you to pick up at the Library.
7. Click on the "Return to Searching" button.
8. To view items you have placed on hold click on the "My Account" tab at the top of the screen then click on "Holds" under the "My Account" tab.
9. When you are finished click on the red "X" button at the top of the screen to protect your privacy and logout of your account.
