Position Classification and Pay

Library Board approved September 15, 2009.  Revised January 17, 2012

  1. All position descriptions except the position description for the Executive Director are drafted and approved by the Executive Director or designee. The position description for the position of Executive Director is approved by the Board of Library Trustees.
  1. The Salary Schedule provides a pay range for each position grade. Employees are compensated by annual merit increases based on an annual written evaluation of overall performance. This system exists to provide fair and reasonable compensation for all Library employees. The Salary Schedule will be reviewed annually by the Executive Director and the Board of Library Trustees, taking into consideration the financial resources available to the Library, the consumer price index and business, government, and library marketplaces.
  1. The Executive Director is authorized to hire at a salary above the beginning of the pay range for a given position if there is adequate justification.
  1. The Oak Park Public Library work week begins at twelve noon on Sunday. There are two work weeks in each pay period, and paychecks are issued on alternate Fridays.
  1.  For the purposes of calculating time and a half pay or compensatory time, “regular work week” is defined as a week for which a full‐time employee is compensated for work, vacation, holiday, sick leave, or paid leave of absence.
  1. All staff working on Sundays shall be credited at time and a half for the time worked when the Library requires the work to be done on Sunday. Full‐time staff working Sunday hours in addition to their regular 40 hour work week will be granted compensatory time, to be taken within one month after Sunday hours are worked.
