Collection Development
The primary purpose of collection development at Oak Park Public
Library is to anticipate and be responsive to the diverse informational,
educational, cultural, and recreational needs of Oak Park residents
of all ages and levels of education. We provide an up-to-date,
carefully selected, and well-balanced collection of the best
materials available in print, audiovisual, and electronic formats.
In order to supply popular fiction and nonfiction titles as
soon as possible, many of these titles are ordered on a pre-publication
basis, frequently two or three months ahead of the date of publication.
The Library Catalog indicates
if a book has been ordered but not yet received by the Library.
The selection of other new material is based on a combination
of reviews in a variety of popular, professional, and specialist
journals and patron interests.
